Lest We Forget.....

Brethren of the Lodge purchased Poppy Crosses in memory of our brethren who made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War and who are remembered on the oak memorial altar – George W Campbell, Henry Hay, Arthur Johnstone, Duncan McFarlane, David RF Mackail, Alexander N Russell, James Ritchie Smith, Joshua H Sanders and Archibald L Barr.  These crosses were then placed in the Grand Lodge of Scotland section of the Remembrance Garden in Princes Street, Edinburgh.  The efforts of the Scottish brethren raised in excess of £16,000 for Poppy Scotland.

To my knowledge this year was the first when the Right Worshipful Master of No XII laid a wreath at the Cenotaph in Greenock’s Wellpark. A number of us joined Bro Alan on a beautiful Sunday morning at what was a very poignant ceremony.  It brought back memories to me of the many years when I accompanied my father there with so many of his contemporaries who served King and Country during World War II.  Not many of them left now, but of course the sterling service of our Armed Forces in conflicts and wars continues …  It is my belief that it is but right that No XII should be involved in this public ceremony of remembrance and gratitude.
